Hong Kong

Hong Kong consists of about 260 islands, each with tunnels, bridges and ferries are connected.

The most famous islands:

  • Hong Kong Island
  • Lantau Island
  • Kowloon
  • New Territories

Hong  Kong belongs to China again since 07-01-1997 but the British rule, the  western city free of all street names, many English names are mentioned  in Chinese and European. Hong Kong has a special status within China, everything is much freer. Hong Kong is also the only city in China where demonstrations commemorating the riots in Tiananmen Square, are allowed. The city is all about the economy. The people are terribly superstitious but almost all the rituals, superstitions revolve around money or the economy. The metropolis is large and overwhelming but there is no chaos. Everything is quite structured and that is for instance evident in the subway. Everyone is waiting his turn neatly and not pushing as in other cities often the case. Tourists can a Day Pass for approximately 5 HKD, and hence travel all day by subway. The underground network is extensive, highlights are very user friendly and all very easily accessible by subway. Hong Kong is an ideal place for a stop over and is also suitable for children. The  city has many attractions that are fun to visit with children such as:  Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park (zoo) and Repulse Bay (nice beach) In  addition to the parks, visiting the Great Buddha also worthwhile. The Great Buddha is reached by a cable car on Lantau Island. From the cable car you have a good view of the airport, the hills of Lantau Island and the Great Buddha. Also a must is a trip to The Peak on Hong Kong Island. The Peak is accessible by a tram and from the view point, you have a clear day with spectacular views over the city. Hong Kong also known as shopping paradise. Many famous designers have a shop but electronics are widely available here.
Famous shopping area are

  • Causeway Bay
  • Times Square.
  • Tsim Sha Tsui Nathan Road.
  • Men’s and Ladies Market Market.

Nightlife is fun in Soho and Tsim Sha Tsui. Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the nicest area to stay as a tourist. The night markets Ladies Market and Temple Street market, also within this district. Nathan Road is a long street with many shops, restaurants, hotels and bars.
